About the workshop
We are pleased to announce that NREN (Nepal Research and Education Network) will be hosting the 2nd National Telemedicine Workshop together with TMSoN (Telemedicine Society of Nepal) and phect-NEPAL/Center for Rural Healthcare & Telemedicine (CRHT) in collaboration with Telemedicine Development Centre of Asia (TEMDEC), Japan, Asi@Connect, TEINcc. Telemedicine is being practiced in Nepal by a number of institutions and individuals since more than a decade. While the way telemedicine is practiced may vary a lot, we feel that better cooperation and coordination among the practitioner can create synergy and set standards in the country.

This workshop is targeted for medical professionals including nurses, healthcare service providers and IT personnel who are currently practicing telemedicine or interested in initiating telemedicine services. It will cover presentations from experienced telemedicine users both from the field of medicine and engineering. This will also provide a unique networking platform where more than 6 companies will showcase their products in the field of telemedicine in Nepal.

Session 1: Role of engineering in telemedicine

In this session, network/system engineer from various hospitals will make presentation focusing on their hospital network environment, network and system related problems they have been facing, and their plan to strengthen hospital network so that they can do better delivery of telemedicine/telehealth services.

This session aims to discuss various problems healthcare providers have been facing while providing telemedicine services in rural Nepal. To achieve the said objective, we will form 4-5 groups. Each group will identify a problem and then come up with a possible solution. After the group discussion, leader of each group will report their work.The results will help develop effective telemedicine intervention in Nepal and beyond facing similar problems.
