Introduction
Nepal Research and Education Network (NREN) has been recognized as a facilitator to support dedicated advanced research and education network through the means of Information and Communication Technology and as a knowledge center to support good ICT initiatives as well as research in the country. This entity has been established as a non-profit organization under Nepal Government and has registered on Social Welfare Council. This is the only consortium in the country active to build nations NREN.
NREN was constituted by the professionals working on the theme of ICT for Development. Lack of research activities and the research infrastructure were the forcing factor for the establishment of NREN.
The lack of proper networking efforts and unavailability of high speed dedicated network is key obstacle of Nepal. As a primary member of APAN (Asia Pacific Advanced Network), NREN supports high speed dedicated network infrastructure and connectivity services to the educational institution as well as research and development centers throughout the nation.
